I decided to try out Carry Optics division again at this USPSA action pistol match at Patriot Outdoors in Clovis, NM. I'd given some further consideration to using a red dot sight (RDS) on a pistol for concealed carry and I've been carrying my CZ P-07 Urban Grey with the RDS on it for a little over a week and dry fire practicing every day with good results once I got used to the concept of target focus with both eyes open. I can definitely see the advantage of it in real world scenarios and I can see how it could potentially be advantageous in competition even though I had some frustration with it previously.
During the course of shooting this match, I realized two things...
1 - A 3 MOA dot might be a little too small for me to subconsciously track during recoil in the daylight. A larger MOA dot would probably be better for action pistol shooting and self defense. The 3 MOA dot took so much concentration for me to follow quickly that I kept forgetting my reload plans on a few stages. 😕
2 - The P-07 is not an ideal gun for fast magazine reloads. 😕 The shape of the top of the magazines are much less forgiving if you don't have things perfectly aligned when inserting the magazine into the gun. A magwell would help tremendously with this issue as it did with my P-09 that I use for 3-Gun, but there aren't any aftermarket magwell offerings for the P-07 and it currently wouldn't be a legal modification in the Carry Optics division. More time training with the gun should fix this though.
I'm a definitely going to continue in Carry Optics for a little while longer to see if I can get the hang of it. Stay tuned...
