USPSA Action Pistol Match 11/13/2021

Yep... I shot another new compact carry gun from concealment at this USPSA action pistol match. 😀 I picked up a couple of Smith & Wesson M&Ps as shop guns for RFV Tactical, a new optics ready Shield Plus and an optics ready Compact 4".  I installed Holosun optics on both guns and added an Apex Tactical trigger to the compact.  I have been really impressed with both guns, and plan to use them regularly in my daily concealed carry rotation and will also use the compact at matches from time to time. I came in 5th Overall (35 total), and I felt like my performance was pretty decent other than a few magazine reload fumbles, which is common for me when retrieving a magazine from concealment.

USPSA Action Pistol Match 10/09/2021

Another USPSA action pistol match with the good folks in Lubbock, TX.  I went back to shooting this match with my concealed carry gear because I was trying out a new carry gun... the Sig Sauer P320 XCarry RXP.  I had written off the Sig P320 long ago when they were having drop test failures and then quality control issues with the first rollout of the P365, but they've since worked out all those issues, and I picked up a P320 XCarry and a P365X as "shop guns" for RFV Tactical.  I must admit that I'm impressed with both guns, but at this match I could definitely tell that the P320 has more muzzle flip than my CZs, 2011s, and Glocks.  Its not a night and day difference by any means, but it is noticable to me.  I absolutely love the modularity of these guns, and I love that you can get them with an optic and night sights installed from the factory.  I textured the grip module of the XCarry, which I think looks great and is an improvement in grip compared to the factory texture.  I also plan to do a grip chop on a second XCarry grip module so that it will accept the shorter 15-round mags and will print less when carrying it concealed.

I ended up in 9th place overall out of 38 total at this match, which is pretty decent for me considering I was shooting from concealment and shooting a new gun for the first time. 😀

USPSA Action Pistol Match 09/25/2021

Okay, okay... I finally went back to using my competition gear at this USPSA action pistol match in Lubbock, TX today.  I used my CZ Shadow 2 with an Inforce WILD2 weapon mounted light.  I didn't install the light to add weight to the gun as it is heavy enough without the light (I even removed the batteries to shed some weight) but rather to use it with one of my RFV Tactical weapon light indexing holsters and universal fit mag carriers. Had a great time, with great people!  Came in 5th place out of 30 overall. 👍

USPSA Action Pistol Match 08/28/2021

I don't really know why, but I am loving shooting USPSA matches with my actual concealed carry gear from RFV Tactical.  I guess it's partly because I want to prove that my concealed carry gear is good to go even at a competition pace, but I also like the idea of competing with the gun that I wore to the match for defensive purposes.  As usual, I was the only person running the match with concealed carry gear, which admittedly puts me at a huge disadvantage, but I am okay with that. 😉  I ended up in 6th place out of 10 overall.

Custom Staccato C2 Handgun

After placing an order for a Bul Armory SAS II Viper and waiting over a year with no ETA on when the gun would be done, I canceled the order and purchased another Staccato C2 as a replacement project. Since I already have one Staccato C2 that is completely stock (other than installing a red dot sight), I really wanted to customize the crap out of this new one.

I purchased the gun and immediately sent the slide off to Vulcan Machine Werks to have the slide milled for a red dot, but I also had them mill their Stacc-Ports into the top of the slide and barrel. While the slide was off getting milled, I took the frame completely apart and dehorned it in preparation to be Cerakoted in Stainless (H-152) by CP Tactical Solutions. While the frame was off getting refinished, I textured the grip module in my signature RFV Tactical concealed carry texture.

Once all the pieces came back, I put it back together and put a Surefire X300U-A on it to finish off that extreme custom look.  The gun turned out exactly how I wanted it, and it shoots and carries great!

The only downside to the Stacc-Ports barrel porting system is that it completely blackens the face of the front sight post after shooting just a few rounds. The fiber optic rod or tritium vial in the front sight becomes completely unusable and is very difficult to clean afterwards. To shield the front sight from the blast of the Stacc-Ports, I wrap it with a piece of electrical tape right before I go to the range for practice or for a match. The electrical tape stays in place during shooting, but is easily removed and keeps the front sight nice and clean during extended shooting sessions. I also keep a piece of electrical tape on the top of any weapon mounted light that extends past the muzzle of any of my guns so that the muzzle blast doesn't burn the coating off the top of the light. That piece of electrical tape doesn't impede the function of the light at all, and it is very easy to replace. 👍

USPSA Action Pistol Match 08/21/2021

Another great USPSA action pistol match using my real everyday concealed carry gear (I only add a second spare mag on my belt with a OWB mag carrier for those stages that will require a second reload). I ended up in 9th place overall (29 total). I was using my new custom two-tone Staccato C2 with a ported barrel/slide.  The gun ran great, but I wish I was a little faster on a couple of stages.  No real mistakes, but just kinda slow. Oh well... still an awesome way to spend a Saturday morning! 😀

Outlaw Action Pistol Match 06/12/2021

Another outlaw action pistol match in the books!  Three stages of IDPA and three stages of USPSA with IDPA targets/scoring all done from carry concealment using my recently built CZ P-09 with a grip chop done by me at RFV Tactical.  I've been trying to pick up the pace at matches lately regardless of what it does to my accuracy just to get the feel for going faster.  Other than a wrecked stage plan on stage 2 which involved a lost gamble on having enough ammo before a slide lock reload and a hit on a non-threat, the match went fairly well for me and I ended up in 2nd place Overall out of 11 total.

Outlaw 2-Gun/PCC Match 05/22/2021

I haven't shot my CZ-USA Scorpion 9mm Carbine at a match in over two years, so I was excited to run it at this 2-Gun/PCC match.  I did pretty decent as I came in 2nd Overall out of 33 total. To be fair, running a PCC vs using a handgun and a rifle was a considerable time saving advantage on several stages, so me coming in 2nd place is kinda skewed, but it was still a lot of fun none the less. 😀

USPSA Action Pistol Match 5/8/2021

I was the only idiot shooting today's USPSA match from concealed appendix, but I managed to come in 2nd place overall (19 total) with my Urban Gray CZ P-09. 😎

IDPA Action Pistol Match 05/01/2021

We had a decent turnout at this IDPA style action pistol match.  I was using my recently built Gen 3 Glock 17 with a grip chop and using one of my RFV Tactical IWB holsters.  I had some tactical reload issues on stage 2 that were just me having a brain fart, but I still managed to get 1st place Overall out of 14 total.  Great stages and a lot of fun!

USPSA Action Pistol Match 09/12/2020

Wow... it as been another couple of months since I've attended an outdoor action pistol match, and it was really good to shoot again. At this USPSA match in Lubbock, TX, I ended up in 3rd place overall (25 total), so I guess my shooting skills haven't deteriorated too much. After reviewing the video, I can see that my performance wasn't stellar by any means, but it was still a lot of fun.  I was shooting my new Glock 34 build at this match, and the gun ran great.
